Smoking is known to cause addiction. That is why when people try to quit they encounter all sort of problems. Quitting is hard for two major reasons. One is the physical addiction that nicotine creates and the other one is the psychological addiction, also known as habit. The physical addiction can be overcome if you manage to quit smoking for a couple of days or a week. The real problem is the habit. Your mind will keep asking for nicotine even when you don’t want it. This is when the quit smoking symptoms occur.

The nicotine craving is one of the most common quit smoking symptoms that usually occur when trying to quit. This happens because as a smoker your body learned to depend from nicotine, and when you stop smoking the body feels like you are depriving him from something. That is why the quit smoking symptoms appear.

Each craving may last between 3-5 minutes, and in the first few days it can really be strong. However it will slowly decrease its strength and will start to happen less often, until it completely disappears.

The quit smoking symptoms may come and go over the first few days, and most of them will disappear after the first three weeks. Also, they can have different effects on different smokers.

Another common quit smoking symptom that occurs is the headache. This usually doesn’t last long, and the normal medication for this situation can work in this case. Also it should disappear after the first 3-4 days.

Irritability, depression or anxiety are also common quit smoking symptoms that will go away in a few weeks.

Other common quit smoking symptoms are indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, and sore throat. They too will pas in a few days.

Insomnia may occur as a quit smoking symptom due to the lack of nicotine. Because you stopped using nicotine your body will get much more caffeine than it usually did. Try to drink less coffee or other caffeine drinks. This should help.

Unusual tiredness and lack of concentration and the ability to focus do appear when quitting. You just have to relax and rest more in the first two weeks. This should help.

Methods of Fighting the Quit Smoking Symptoms

When suffering from cravings remember that the best solution is to confront them right from the beginning. You can overcome them through will and determination. You just have to really want to quit smoking and this should be enough.

You have to remember that the quit smoking symptoms usually only last a couple of minutes. You can deal with them during this time. Just think of the reasons why you decided to quit smoking in the first place or look at your quitting plan. It may help.

Remember to drink a lot of water and try to sip it. This way your body will stay hydrated and your appetite may also decrease.

But most important when fighting the quit smoking symptoms is to always keep yourself preoccupied with something, have some activities or chores to perform. By doing this you take your mind off from smoking.
